Hawaii’s ‘Outrigger’ Honored for Marine Commitment

At this year’s Third Annual Hawaii’s Living Reef Program Awards, top honors was awarded to Outrigger Hotels & Resorts for its commitment to the marine environment in the Travel and Tourism Business category, beating out nominees in the Atlantis Submarines and the Maui Ocean Center. The award was presented at a special ceremony on September 21 and sponsored by the Coral Reef Outreach Network, a collaboration of over 40 government and non-government outreach providers.

As an organization looking to raise awareness of the coral reef ecosystem to Hawaii, the Coral Reed Outreach Network awarded Outrigger for its “responsible stewardship of sensitive shoreline areas, and its ongoing collaborations with various government agencies and nonprofit organizations dedicated to preserving Hawaii’s environment.”Outrigger was also acknowledged for its support of multiple public education efforts about the environment.
