The Heathman Hotel, a historic, luxury hotel in Portland, Oregon, was has been honored by PacifiCorp recently for its efforts toward becoming a green hotel, along with 14 other Oregon businesses that have worked with Energy Trust of Oregon on increasing energy efficiency and committing to sustainable practices.
“The Heathman is very proud of its ongoing commitment to the environment,” said Chris Erickson, general manager of the Heathman Hotel. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the excellent resources and guidance PacifiCorp has provided throughout the process. Being recognized by them is truly an honor and we look forward to building on our commitment in the coming year.”
For the past year, the 150-room historic hotel has been implementing energy efficiency upgrades to its lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, a project with they expect to fully complete by early 2008. After all is said and done, the Heathman expects to save an estimated 525,000 kilowatt hours minimum of electricity and 15,197 therms of natural gas each year; on a monthly average the hotel will see a savings of 50 percent of the hotel’s energy costs.
