Illuminating some of earth’s most critical environmental issues, like the availability of clean, fresh water, our energy future, the accelerating pace of climate change and the environmental impact of war, the Environmental Film Festival opens for its 16th year in Washington, D.C. to play a role in addressing them through the artistry of film. The Festival presents a broad spectrum of films that seek to inspire change in our world. The Festival will screen 115 films from 30 countries for 12 days in March. Twenty-seven filmmakers will be on hand to discuss their films along with 86 environmental experts and special guests.

The 11th Hour, the recipient of the 2008 Earthwatch Institute Film Award [insert applause here] will be shown at the Festival on March 20th. Following will be a discussion with filmmakers Leila Connors Petersen and Nadia Conners as well as Wallace J. Nichols, Senior Scientist, Ocean Conservancy and Edward Wilson, President and CEO, Earthwatch Institute.

The 11th Hour film expert, Wade Davis, will premier at the Festival his new 3-D IMAX film, Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk. Set against the majestic backdrop of the Grand Canyon, this film takes audiences on an exhilarating river-rafting adventure down the Colorado River with a team of explorers and environmentalists committed to bringing awareness to global water issues. Discussion with Wade Davis follows screening.

Even though I cannot attend this environmental film festival, I still like to read all about the films being shown, then I can look for them when they come out, or when they are available to rent.
