San Francisco-based boutique hotel chain Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group Inc. is making strides in the green hospitality department. The company’s environmental program, Earthcare, enables every hotel to adopt standard environmentally friendly products and practices, such as eco-friendly cleaning supplies and recycling.
With locations nationwide, including the Hotel Monaco brand, Kimpton Hotels bring luxurious accommodations with a conscience to premier locations. It is one of the more environmentally sound hotels available today, boasting designer recycling bins in guest rooms, LED lighting and printing all corporate collateral on recycled paper using soy-based ink.
The Earthcare program has gained some real, tangible results since its inception:
- Non-toxic cleaners: Eliminated over 48,596 gallons (974 bathtubs) of toxic cleaners from our water supplies.
- Cardboard recycling: Recycled and reused over 117 tons of cardboard, which would fill 1.25 Olympic sized swimming pools.
- Organic and shade grown coffee: Preserved over 40,000 acres (18 football fields) of pesticide free sustainable agriculture.
- Recycled paper: Saved over 253 trees and eliminated 18,000 pounds of unnecessary waste by printing on recycled paper.
- Recycling coat hangers: Recycled over 52,000 coat hangers, preventing the use of over 1.8 tons of steel and metal.
