Tuesday – June 3rd at the Institute of EcoTourism, Sedona, Arizona

11am LEAVE NO TRACE
2pm ALTERNATIVE ENERGIES
3:30PM WILDERNESS MEDICINE

Fueled by vegetable oil and solar power, the NOLS custom-outfitted bus has already traveled over 100,000 miles across 48 states spreading the word about NOLS in an active, environmentally conscious way.

Sponsored by Stonyfield Farm, the makers of organic yogurt, the NOLS Bus runs on recycled vegetable oil (RVO), a cleaner, renewable alternative to petroleum. The specially adapted vehicle is refueled with RVO from restaurants and dining halls creating a trail of fried food smells as it travels to each location.

Solar panels on the roof power the interior lights, computers, refrigerators and other electronics.

Join us and the NOLS gang for what promises to be a most fun and informative day!

Leave No Trace
In the early 90s NOLS teamed up with the Forest Service to create a hands-on, science-based minimum impact education training for non-motorized recreational activities. This education became the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. Our crew can educate visitors about general LNT principles as well as practices
specific to certain geographic areas or certain activities.

Alternative Energies
The NOLS Bus runs on recycled vegetable directly from the back of Asian or Mexican restaurants. We filter it and heat it, but do not treat it with chemicals. All of the non-street legal electronics run off of solar energy (i.e., refrigerators, outlets, flat screen television, etc.). The bus has traveled over 100,000 miles mainly on these renewable resources. Our crew enjoys explaining the systems and theories behind the systems while also helping visitors make connections to the smaller steps they can take in their lives.

Wilderness Medicine
Wilderness Medicine is medicine practiced an hour or more from definitive medical services. Most of our bus crew members are certified Wilderness First Responders or Wilderness EMTs. They can offer workshops about hypo (hypothermic) wraps, forearm splinting, wound care / cleaning, and BEAMing (moving a patient while keeping his/her spine stable).
