According to a new survey, The Role of Carbon Offsets in Adventure Travel, tour operators are increasingly looking for viable methods to to use carbon offsets in a broader, as travelers are willing to take on the extra charges. Under this idea, proper guidelines and education about offsets is needed by industry professionals and travelers alike.
The survey, conducted by NativeEnergy in May, web-polled 50 Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) members in an effort to decipher the perceptions of carbon offsets and their place within the adventure travel sector of the travel industry. While only 51% revealed having a clear understanding of carbon offsetting, 86% felt that the carbon offsets could be a potential solution to climate change.
‘This feedback clearly shows a positive feeling about carbon offset programs within the adventure travel industry,’ says Richard Edwards, a consultant for NativeEnergy . ‘Folks just need to better understand how it works and who is going to pay for it.’
