According to a new research publication by Xola Consulting, “adventure travel is not a well-defined segment”, as it often pertains to ecotourism, heritage tourism, volunteer tourism, rural tourism, community tourism, and wildlife tourism.
Adventure travel is a rapidly growing sector within the travel industry- tourists are increasingly looking to explore or travel to remote, exotic and possibly hostile areas. Typically depicted as tourists who choose to “depart their comfort zone”, adventure travel often includes activities such as mountaineering, trekking, bungee jumping, mountain biking, rafting, zip-lining and rock climbing, with other rising forms of adventure travel include social and jungle tourism.
Yet, according to a new research publication by Xola Consulting, “adventure travel is not a well-defined segment”, as it often pertains to ecotourism, heritage tourism, volunteer tourism, rural tourism, community tourism, and wildlife tourism.
Adventure Travel Industry Growth Statistics, the newly-published research document by Christina Heyniger of Xola Consulting, provides insight on the size and growth of the adventure travel segment.
The document outlines significant growth and popularity, as well as room for expansion, in outdoor human-powered activities, gear retail and tourism. It also takes into account women’s attraction towards adventure travel, traveler-age statistics and emerging economies.

I've been thinking about doing this type of travel in the near future but have not come to grips with it yet. Maybe after the kids are finished college.
