The Philadelphia Airport Marriott Hotel gets Philly's first environmental, green certification

The Philadelphia Airport Marriott hotel is awarded a green certification for their environmentally friendly practices, the first property in Philadelphia, PA to gain such recognition.

(PRWEB) The Philadelphia Airport hotel has been Green Certified by Green Seal, an organization recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, announced today by Ms. Sandy LeBlanc, General Manager. This hotel near the Philly airport is the only property in Philadelphia to have this green certification.

This green certified hotel in Philadelphia, had to undergo an inspection and meet a checklist of criteria which included procedures like environmental compliance, waste minimization and recycling, bulk product purchasing, use of energy efficient equipment, utilization of compact fluorescent bulbs, indoor air quality measurements, use of water conservation fixtures, use of organic insecticides, non-toxic paints used throughout, etc.

GREEN SEAL CERTIFICATION
Green Seal is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to safeguarding the environment and transforming the marketplace by promoting the manufacture, purchase, and use of environmentally responsible products and services.

According to Green Seal, the lodging industry in the U.S. encompasses more than 50,000 properties (with 15 rooms or more). The average hotel purchases more products in one week than 100 families will purchase in one year. A hotel is a microcosm of the built environment, in which purchasing decisions impact energy use, water use and created. The lodging industry has an impact on most major environmental issues.

Green Seal’s Environmental Standard for Lodging Properties (GS-33) has been instrumental in greening the lodging industry and creating a positive ROI for that have implemented the recommended changes.

Green Seal’s evaluations of this Philadelphia green airport hotel is based on state-of-the-art science and information using internationally recognized methods and procedures. To earn the coveted Green Seal a product must meet the Green Seal environmental standard for the category as demonstrated by rigorous evaluation, testing and an on-site visit.

Green Seal is recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
