(Hotel News Resource) Niagara Falls, Ontario plays home to the Doubletree Fallsview Resort & Spa, a Hilton property recognized for its strides toward sustainability by Canada’s Green Key Eco-Rating Program. The program, facilitated by the Hotel Association of Canada, is designed to recognize hotels that participate in environmental programs, best management practices, training programs, and environmental engineering solutions.

“Our entire team at the Doubletree Fallsview Resort & Spa by Hilton Niagara Falls clearly understands the implications of how the things we do in our everyday duties throughout our hotel can ultimately have a measurable impact on the world in which we live,” says Robert Orsini, hotel general manager. “As a business that firmly believes in caring for both our hotel guests and the community we serve, we consider it our responsibility to implement practices that enhance the guest experience and benefit the environment. Our Three Green Key Eco-Rating with the Hotel Association of Canada is our proud first step in this long-term plan.”

The voluntary Green Key Eco-Rating Program poses approximately 140 questions related to various areas of sustainable hotel operations, including building infrastructure, community outreach, energy conservation, environmental management, hazardous waste management, indoor air quality, land use, solid waste management and water conservation. Each question is given a point value and are designed to evaluate the hotel’s efforts in each area and measure their environmental and social impacts as well as their associated impacts on guests, employees, management and the local community.

Doubletree is a member of the Hilton Family of Hotels, which has committed to reducing energy consumption by 20%, CO2 emissions by 20%, output of waste by 20%, and water consumption by 10% by 2014. The company also is committed to focusing on high-impact areas, including sustainable buildings and operations, and the advancement of sustainable design and construction, operations, chemical management, purchasing, and to the advancement of renewable energy as a source of power for operations, not only to reduce its carbon footprint but to develop a viable commercial infrastructure for powering its buildings.

Located less than a two-hour drive from Buffalo, Toronto, Hamilton and Rochester, the hotel combines the timeless rustic architecture of a Grand National Park Lodge with the elegance of an English Manor, featuring rooms and suites with breathtaking views in a relaxed atmosphere adjacent to these and many other natural wonders across the Niagara Region. The resort also is home to the Ochre Art Gallery, where artwork inspired by the Canadian outdoors is proudly displayed.

Guests can enjoy the relaxing recreation of a year-round, heated swimming pool, whirlpool, cedar sauna and an outdoor hot tub situated in a seasonal garden. The Five Lakes AVEDA Day Spa on site at the Doubletree Fallsview Resort & Spa – Niagara Falls also offers a variety of superior quality European spa and facial treatments. For social events and business conferences, the Doubletree also features 10,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space and can accommodate groups of up to 275 guests.
