Personal care products work to protect the Amazon
Save Your World® teams with the first man to Walk the Amazon, former British Army Captain Ed Stafford, to unite & educate the world about the “most threatened eco-systems left on the planet.
(Save Your World) - Save Your World®, the first company in the United States to launch a personal care product line infused with organic yerba maté and organic aloe vera, is demonstrating its commitment for preserving our world’s natural resources by supporting and maintaining a communication channel between students and the first ever Walking the Amazon expedition to raise awareness about the effects of deforestation and the resulting climate changes in our rainforests.
“Save Your World believes that man can live in harmony with nature and that man must learn to preserve these pristine biodiverse areas in order to sustain survival for future generations and to allow them to enjoy these areas uncompromised,” said Scott Cecil, president of Save Your World. “The Walking the Amazon program can assist educators by creating an exciting and real-world learning experience for students. From geology and agriculture, to anthropology and even computer education, this journey can be a strong tool that will not only educate, but will improve the awareness of treating our Earth like the vital and fragile resource that it is.”
Sponsoring the communication system for the Walking the Amazon program is just one of the ways Save Your World is working for the environment. “Save Your World is committed to protecting our world’s natural resources,” Cecil said. “A portion of the proceeds from every Save Your World product sold goes toward saving the South American rainforest. Our company pledge is: ‘1 Product = 1 Acre of Rainforest Saved for 1 Year®’.”
Britain native and former British Army Captain, Ed Stafford, will be the first in history to complete the trip along the world’s longest river, spanning more than 4,000 miles from source to mouth. Cecil first met Stafford while traveling in the Save Your World protected rainforest in Guyana where Stafford was managing a camp for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and conducting an environmental assessment of the area under protection.
“The amazing thing about this partnership is the synergy between Save Your World’s goals and Ed’s goals,” Cecil commented. Stafford will travel from the source of the Amazon River in southern Peru to the mouth in Brazil. The expedition will be uninterrupted and is expected to last between 16 and 18 months. Ed will become the first man ever to walk the amazing Amazon. The intent of his journey is to educate the world about the Amazon and climate change.
“Our hope is that by using online communication and technology that was impossible only a few years ago, we can create an adventure so exciting to follow on the Internet that schools will be able to utilize my journey to harvest an interest with students to educate and demonstrate the vital eco-issues surrounding the Amazon,” Stafford said. “By acting as a medium between the diverse people that I meet on the way and our world’s youth, we believe we can make an impact on how we treat our world every day and to gain a stronger appreciation for our rainforests and the Amazon.”
The Walk the Amazon blog will be maintained to include Stafford’s findings, a route update, and details about his journey, while creating a communication channel for students to email him questions about this area of our world. Reasons to Save the Rainforests: Did You Know?
* The rainforest is the single greatest source of the air that we breathe, accounting for a full 20 percent.
* Rainforests are home to about half of the planet’s five to 10 million plant and animal species.
* We lose 6,000 acres of rainforest every hour, 56,000 square miles each year.
* Each year, deforestation contributes 23-30 percent of all the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, according the Rainforest Action Network. This is more than double the emissions of all the world’s cars and trucks combined.
* Trees in the rainforest work like the lungs of the earth in reverse fashion from our own breathing. Trees absorb carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere and release clean oxygen.
* Saving the rainforest is critical to maintaining clean air and a healthy environment. Save your rainforest one acre at a time and you absorb nearly a half ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) - or one ton of CO2 for every 2.471 acres. Reducing CO2 emissions reduces the thinning of the ozone layer.
* Tropical rainforests have the highest mean net primary production of any terrestrial ecosystem, meaning an acre of rainforest stores more carbon than an acre of any other vegetation type.
