'Eco Starter Kit' helps the Earth and economy in time for Earth Day '09

Most people want to do what is right for the environment, but few have the time to sort through the heaps of information available to make informed decisions. Eco Hatchery’s “Eco Starter Kit” includes key products for conserving energy and water, lowering utility bills, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions that lead to global warming.

It’s clear that no one can afford to ignore the earth and economy any longer, but what can the average person do to truly make an impact? Eco Hatchery designed the Eco Starter Kit with this question in mind.

Inside the Eco Starter Kit are energy-saving products that, in the first year alone, help a typical US household save $260 on utility bills and shrink its carbon footprint by 2.5 tons. The average carbon footprint of an individual is about 12 tons of CO2e per year.

Kit users can calculate their carbon footprint online, track progress, and create a personalized roadmap for continued savings. They can even join forces with others and work toward a common goal, using Eco Hatchery’s free online community feature.

"Many people want to take action to conserve energy and protect the environment but don’t know where to start. Few have time to do all the research that’s required to make informed decisions for leading a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. Our aim was to remove the obstacles to taking action and to provide people with the best tools and information available," said Eco Hatchery co-founder Adam Borut.

An illustrated instruction book inside the kit describes economic and environmental benefits of all the kit’s products, along with the time needed for each activity. Some of the products included are:

  • Energy Monitor and Appliance Audit
  • Energy-efficient Lighting Replacement Tool and Premium Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb (CFL)
  • Water Quality & Conservation Tools
  • Home Insulation Products
  • Reusable Shopping Bag
  • A-Z Recycling Resources Directory
  • Reusable Water Bottle
  • Natural Soy Candle
  • Eco-friendly Product Samples
  • Online Eco Roadmap

"For Earth Day this year, the Eco Starter Kit is a meaningful gift for friends and family and a highly effective way for organizations to show their environmental commitment to employees, clients and associates," said Eco Hatchery co-founder Andrea Nylund.

"The Obama Administration is calling upon Americans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050. We can achieve this goal, but success will depend on the determination and participation of all the links in the chain, from individuals and communities to employers and energy providers," Nylund emphasized.

Kits may be co-branded and shipped directly with gift messages.
