Two online travel sites eliminate fees on flights
No Comments
Online travel giants CheapTickets.com and Orbitz.com have announced that they are permanently removing booking fees on all flights, domestic and international. While it may not be in the vein of responsible or “green” travel, this bit of news is definitely worth reading for the budget-conscious traveler.
With summer travel on its way, it has never been a better time for travelers to book their flights online. As of June 1st, both CheapTickets.com and Orbitz.com are officially eliminating all booking fees for domestic and international flights. What makes this news even better? The lowered pricing is permanent .
So, what’t the catch? Well, for starters, the flights must originate out of the U.S., Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean. Secondly, the new pricing excludes all multi-carrier itineraries.
"CheapTickets customers are true deal seekers and price is the most important factor when booking a trip," said Tom Russell, group vice president for CheapTickets.com. "With the permanent removal of fees, CheapTickets has never been cheaper and there has never been a better time to buy."

More ways to save
Both CheapTickets and Orbitz offer package savings to travelers – when buying a flight and hotel together, dynamic packaging capabilities offers customers access to deeply discounted rates on airline tickets and hotel rooms that would otherwise go unsold – rates that the airlines and hotels would not typically offer if purchased separately.
For the travel-off-season, CheapTickets provides an Off-Season Deals guide as a valuable resource for the budget-minded traveler – highlighting top picks at off-season destinations with significant savings.
Also, on the Orbitz side, for the past year the booking site has offered customers a "Flight Price Assurance" guarantee - promising customers will get the best Orbitz price for their flights. Basically, if you book a flight on Orbitz, and then another Orbitz customer subsequently books the same ticket at a lower published fare, Orbitz will send you a check for the difference. This guarantee is a permanent offering through Orbitz and is entirely automatic.
"Orbitz is committed to providing travelers great value and peace of mind," said Barney Harford, president and CEO of Orbitz Worldwide. "We’ve removed booking fees and added the protection of Flight Price Assurance to deliver unbeatable savings to Orbitz customers."
