Isn't it great when we as a community can do things like that!
But Sweet was not the first, and is not the only Lesbian Travel company to do community service projects.
I was on an Olivia cruise recently that did just that. Women brought tons of donations…suitcases full of toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoos, soap, medical supplies, crayons, pencils, pencil sharpeners, notebooks, toys, balls, sports equipment, balloons and the list goes on. Everything was sorted by an ambitious team of "baggers" into cartons of school supplies for the teachers and filled Ziploc bags for the kids. It was awesome!
There were so many supplies…that the ship (Holland America's ms Westerdam) had to crate most things and have it delivered ashore. Also many women took supplies with them on their excursions and had donation sites and individuals to hand supplies out to.
Not sure on a total count…but it was up in the thousands of items donated. Hats off to all the wonderful women that contributed and dispensed all the donation items to Samana, Dominican Republic, Olivia Caribbean Cruise, November 2008.
