Eco tours in Yellowstone and Australia help raise environmental awareness
America’s Schools Program and Sustainable Travel International have partnered to offer eco-friendly trips to raise awareness within the travel industry for local economic development and the natural and socio-cultural environments.
As part of America’s Schools Program’s ongoing commitment to environmental education and awareness, they are teaming up with Sustainable Travel International (STI), to offer two trips in 2010 that exemplify responsible tourism in action.
These active and experiential trips are scheduled for June 18-27, 2010, in South East Queensland, Australia, and June 11-16, 2010, at Yellowstone National Park.
Each region’s top eco-lodges and green hotels will be a highlight of these trips. These properties are working to protect the environment and economically benefiting the local communities where they’re located, and some have a strong focus on preserving cultural heritage as well.
“We are excited to partner with America’s Schools Program in offering these eco-friendly trips,” said Brian Mullis, co-founder and president of STI. “Although more tour operators are offering trips that feature ‘green’ elements, the travel industry needs to do more to support local economic development and the natural and socio-cultural environments they visit. By collaborating with America’s Schools Program, we aim to offer extraordinary vacations, while also providing our guests with opportunities to learn about responsible tourism first hand.”
Yellowstone
The 6-day trip to Yellowstone National Park includes adventurous, yet low-impact, activities like whitewater rafting, horseback riding, and hiking. Expert guides create a secure and rewarding environment full of challenge, accomplishment and fun. Combined with outdoor activities, accommodations and dining, guests experience the ultimate Yellowstone National Park vacation.
Hike into the Yellowstone’s backcountry, through the rainbow spray of a thundering waterfall and a shooting geyser. Raft a playful stretch of the beautiful Yellowstone River, perfect for beginners. Wind your way along a trail high into the Montana Rockies on horseback alongside a real-deal 4th generation cowboy. And when night falls, relax and recharge with a soak in a soothing hot spring.
Australia
Participants in the 10-day trip to Australia will visit award winning eco-lodges, enjoy pristine beaches, and explore World Heritage sites, rural communities and off-the-beaten-path sights. There will also be plenty of educational opportunities, including learning about Aboriginal culture, dance and art.
“We are delighted to partner with Sustainable Travel International on this exciting initiative,” said Don Baird, president of America’s Schools Program. “Not only will our participants experience the best of what Australia and the Rockies have to offer, but they will also learn about sustainable tourism from the local people who are directly involved.”
The 10-day Australian trip starts at $2998, and the 6-day Yellowstone trip starts at $1998.
