Beginning this month, the Seaport Hotel in Boston is offer overnight eco-conscious guests access to a complimentary charging station and a complimentary night of valet parking through the rest of the year.

Boston is showing an even greener side with the start of Earth Month 2010 (that’s April in case you missed the memo).

The super-walkable U.S. city, known for being one of the nation’s “greenest” urban centers, is now welcoming its first lodging property – the Seaport Hotel – to offer guests who arrive in hybrid or electric vehicles access to a complimentary charging station and a complimentary night of valet parking through the end of 2010.

“We hope that many guests will take advantage of this new amenity,” said Jim Carmody, Vice President and General Manager for the Seaport Hotel. “So many people are driving hybrid vehicles now, and that will only increase in the months and years ahead. Electric cars will also increase in popularity moving forward. At Seaport we wanted to not only commend, but to reward, fellow, eco-minded guests.”

No sacrifice of style necessary

The announcement was made as Seaport hosted the RAR (Renew America Roadtrip) kick off. RAR will drive a Tesla (a $130K, zero emissions, all-electric, luxury, high performance sports car) from Boston to Philadelphia to highlight that you don’t have to sacrifice luxury and performance to support renewable energy.

“This is a fitting addition to the Seaport’s growing list of green initiatives it has undertaken since opening its doors,” said Him Hunt, Boston’s Chief of Environmental and Energy Service. “To have businesses in Boston share the City’s commitment to sustainable energy and continually come up with innovative ways to make being green enticing, shows we have a true partner in Mayor Menino’s efforts to turn Beantown into Greentown.”

Seaport’s charging station will be located on the first level of the Seaport Garage, directly underneath the hotel.

An eco trendsetter

Seaport proves it is possible to coexist in a delicate balance with the natural world while providing world-class service in a luxurious setting.

The hotel’s environmental program, Seaport Saves, is Seaport’s groundbreaking environmental program dedicated to increasing sustainability and conservation throughout all aspects of the organization.

Seaport Saves includes a variety of initiatives including the city’s first in-room recycling program, a property-wide composting system and the use of electrolyzed water for cleaning purposes. Seaport received a 4 out of 5 rating from the Green Key/AAA Eco-Rating Program.
